Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan Jointly Unveil Nameplate of Confucius Institute at University of Punjab

  Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan visited Pakistan and met with President Arif Alvi in Islamabad and held talks with Prime Minister Imran Khan. Following their talks, Wang Qishan and Imran Khan together attended the unveiling and signing ceremony of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Cooperation project and jointly inaugurated the Confucius Institute at the University of the Punjab.

  The University of the Punjab is a state-funded, research-oriented comprehensive university in Pakistan. It was founded in 1882 in Lahore, capital of Punjab province and second largest city in the country, known as “soul of Pakistan”. It is the oldest and largest institution of higher education in Pakistan. Approved by the Confucius Institute Headquarters in June 2015, the Confucius Institute at the University of the Punjab was co-established by Jiangxi University of Science and Technology and the University of the

Punjab.

  Previously, Confucius Institutes had been set up in Islamabad and at the University of Karachi and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. Now, this new Confucius Institute at the University of the Punjab is expected to promote Chinese language teaching in Punjab province and even in the whole country. Moreover, it is hoped to facilitate China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and promote cultural exchanges between China and

Pakistan.

  Also present at the event were Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Makdum Khusro Bakhtyar, Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Financial Advisor, Yao Jing, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan and delegates from China.
